Bringing Sarcoma Awareness Center Stage
Performers With A Purpose, Bringing Sarcoma
Awareness Center Stage is a dance program that aims to expose students to the
performing arts, while simultaneously raising funds and awareness for Sarcoma
Cancer. This one of a kind program aims to utilize the arts and show students that not only can they be can be a launching pad for success, but can
be a great tool for community service. The students are in the driver
seat and through dance they are able to bring light to a cancer that strikes
thousands of people each and every year. It is about educating our youth, educating our community, and making sure that people know about this aggressive cancer that affects children and adults alike.
Over the course of 3 years Christina has worked with various school administrators, taught hundreds of students and brought her program to life. As Miss Brooklyn 2011 she coordinated a dance benefit performance where 120 of her students opened the show, 8 dancing schools from all over New York came to showcase their work, 500 community members attended, including Senator Marty Golden and Councilmember Vincent Gentile and close to $12,000.00 was raised for The Sarcoma Alliance. As Miss Verrazano 2012 she expanded the program, leading a group of 300 8th grade Performers With A Purpose during a performance at Brooklyn's own MCU Park. She has traveled around to various schools as a motivational speaker, promoting her platform, sharing her personal connection to sarcoma and spreading the joys of the performing arts.
In 2011 Christina was recognized for her work as Miss Brooklyn along with the commitment to her platform, receiving the "Rookie of the Year" Award at The Rising Stars of Brooklyn Awards Event.
